About the position 

We are now looking to appoint a summer worker for the IT Infrastructure & Operations group in the IT division.  

The IT Infrastructure & Operations group is responsible for managing and maintaining ESS’s data centers, private cloud infrastructure, servers and computing resources, storage and backup systems, network management, internet connectivity, wireless and mobile networks, identity and access management, and IT security. 

As a summer worker, your primary responsibility will be to enhance our monitoring systems and improve alert notifications for our server infrastructure. You will also work on updating and testing software deployments across different Linux distributions to ensure. You will be responsible for documenting procedures, for the software deployment using clear and structured how-to guidelines. 

Beyond these tasks, you will also be involved in technical support, assisting end-users by troubleshooting basic hardware and software issues and escalating more complex problems to senior engineers. As part of your role, you will help with troubleshooting system issues, following established procedures and documenting solutions. 

Furthermore, you will support ongoing IT projects, which may include hardware deployments, software installations, and system upgrades. You will also assist with basic networking tasks, such as cable management and device configuration. 

About you 

A suitable background for this position would be:

  • Enrolled at university, following an undergraduate degree in one of following faculties: Computer Science, Engineering, Electronics, Telecommunications & Information Technology
  • Experience with editing content SharePoint, Confluence, Wiki or similar software
  • Familiar with Linux distributions (Ubuntu, Debian, Mandriva, etc.) and command line
  • Experience in developing software with Go or Python programming languages
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code and an orchestration tool such as Ansible or Puppet would be beneficial
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English
  • Minimum age 18 years
